Adding and Editing your pages

If you have registered with us as an artist or you are the representative of a registered school you are able to login and begin adding or editing your pages.

The procedure for maintaining your pages is online and, hopefully, you will soon get the hang of it.

There is very little difference between the artists directory and the schools directory so hopefully this guide will surfice for both.

The only difference is that within the artists section you are invited to tick a box to say that you would consider making a visit to a local school. This option isn't included in the schools section - because they are already there!

If you have just registered or just logged in then you should be looking at the page shown above with your name on it.

Click on the link to create your pages.
In the left hand column you will see that some new links under the heading of "Your Administration" have appeared.

Before going any further it is probably best if I explain what each link does.
Each artist has three seperate pages:

1. A biography with a picture.
2. A gallery of pictures and an introduction to that gallery.
3. A page of links to other information on the web and an introduction those links.

So before we go any further you will need:

1. A picture of yourself in .jpg format which is about 120 pixels across.
2. Some notes about yourself that you are going to type in (or a computer document you can cut and paste the information from). It can be as long as you like but a couple of pages of A4 would more than fit the bill. There are three places where text can go:
In the Biography, in the Gallery Introduction and in the Links Introduction.
The idea is that you use the two introductions to talk about your pictures in your gallery and to talk about the links in your links page.
3. You will need some pictures again in .jpg format this time about 500 pixels across again there are no restrictions imposed on how many but twelve to fifteen is a good number.
4. Finally, if you have any links you wish to promote ,for example your own website or multimedia files on sites such as Myspace or Youtube you need the web addresses of these.

Please bear in mind that you can always come back and add to or change any of the information at a later stage.

When you are ready to go, click on the Biography link and you should find yourself looking at the folowing screen:

This page might at first glance look a bit daunting but it's shouldn't be.

Before starting your own entry have a look at some of the other artist's pages to get a feel for it.

The first field allows you to select a picture (mugshot?). This is entirely optional and you can put any picture you wish - for example a picture of the school if this is a school entry. Click on the browse button and you will see a list of the pictures on your own computer, select the one you want by clicking on it and click the open button. If you later think better of it you can either click the remove tick box or just select a different picture.

The next question is about keywords.
These are important in that they help people to find you in the directory and also in the Internet search engines. So list any words that will help find you for example: sculpture or painter - seperate them with comma.

If you are a school representative then the next box will not appear in your screen. If you are an artist and are prepared to discuss making a visit to a local school, please tick the box.

Use the dropdown box to select the county you live in. If yours isn't in the list (as until recently Lincolnshire wasn't) then this is a mistake and not an insult, please contact us and we will remedy the ommision. Whilst this is done please feel free to nominate yourself as an honoury Yorkshireman.

We now get to the text for your page.
In the large box you can type or paste text. There is no real limit to how much text you can put in but about two A4 pages is probably about the right size. You can if you wish come back again and again and change the page, adding more text and changing existing text.

If you are familiar with HTML then you can use HTML text and the buttons at the top of the box are to help with editing HTML.

If you are unfamiliar with HTML you can still use the buttons - for example highlight some of your text and click on the B button (which means Bold text) you will see that it inserts two 'tags' to switch on and then switch off bold text. Similarly, with the I button for italics and the underscore u button to underline.
You might like to try some of the other buttons if you are feeling brave.
If you do know HTML, which increasingly users do, my apologies for the patronising style.

When you have entered your text then scroll to the bottom of the page and click the save button.

Thats all. when you return to edit your page in the future you will see that the existing page appears in the box at the bottom of the screen.

Exactly the same system is used to add and edit the Gallery introduction - whch appears above your pictures in the Gallery and also to edit the Links intoduction which appears above your links in the Links section.
Editing your Gallery uses a very similar system to the one used t0 upload the picture on the Biography / Introduction page. Click on the your Gallery link and this screen showing the pictures currently in your Gallery will be listed. In the example there are three.
To upload another one click on the 'Add New' link which is to the right underneath the search box.

The site will respond with the following screen which displays a list of files on your computer.

8.jpg
To pick a file click on it and then click the 'Open' button. This will fill in the box on the form with the filename. You now add a suitable title into the upper box and click the 'save' button. You can only upload one picture at a time but you can upload as many as you wish but no more than twenty please. The pictures you choose should be in the .jpg format and be approx 500 pixels wide. This is to ensure a reasonable download speed and also to avoid using too much space on the server.

Assuming you have already done the Links and the Gallery Introductions at the same time as you did the Biography / Introduction page all that remains to be done is the Links page.

11.jpg
This page looks similar to the Gallery editing page and works in a similar fashion. In the example shown there are three links you can edit or delete links or set up new ones.
You can put in links to other websites you like, your own website or additional content such as video on Youtube or other similar sites.

To add a new link click on 'Add New'

9.jpg
Put in a title to describe the link and the link itself, for example: a title of: This is a Link to Google and the link as: www.google.co.uk then click on the 'Save' button.

You can check your pages either by clicking on the Login link at the top of the screen and selecting 'view pages' alternativly you should be able to search for yoursef in the Directory by clicking on search Artists or search Schools.

If you have any problems at all or have questions you wish to ask please contact us and we will delighted to hear from you.
