i've been a painter for more years than i care to remember, though it is only recently that i have been in a position to afford a studio.currently i'm based in Westgate Studios, Wakefield. when i completed my art degree, i went on to qualify as a teacher, and spent many years teaching in various F.E.colleges in the Yorkshire region. i also worked for community and youth organisations, both statutory, and voluntary, which is where i still work. in 2007 i completed an M.A. in religion and education, and my dissertation concerned itself with art and the Land. i researched Land art, and artists who were inspired and influenced by the land. whilst i do not describe myself as a 'landscape painter', the land is where i go for my creativity to be fed. i'm particularly drawn to those places which have had long relationships with people. places where ancient people lived, celebrated, worshipped, and died. stone circles: standing stones: liminal sites. these are the places i feel a connection to. |
